Safe Lawns of Salem - Fall Lawncare Tips

Lawn Improvements

Fall Lawn Improvements

Call to get on the schedule now. It’s never too early to plan for a lush, green lawn for next Spring!

Soil test results are ready for review.  The results will indicate which Fall improvements will deliver the most optimal results. Fall is the best time to prep for spring because warm soil temperatures yield quick grass germination. Plus, crabgrass and other weeds are nearing the end of their life cycle, and won’t compete with new grass.

Fall Lawn Improvements may include:

  • Core Aeration – Improves the flow of air, water, and nutrients through the soil.
  • Overseeding – Fills in bare spots and improves density of the turf without disturbing the existing lawn.  Introduces new grass species to an existing lawn.
  • Compost Topdressing – Increases organic matter, providing nutrients and beneficial microbes. Improves soil structure, water infiltration, and uneven spots in the lawn.  Reduces thatch along with watering and winter damage.
  • Lime Application – Keeping the right pH will allow soil to uptake maximum nutrients.

Preparing the Lawn for Winter

Preparing your lawn correctly late in the season will ensure a lush, green lawn in the Spring! Call to set up your appointment with Safe Lawns of Salem today!

The lawn should be cut short just before the Winter.  The optimal length is 2-1/2”.  This will help to prevent disease. Rake up any remaining leaf litter and other debris.

Finally, relax, and think about Spring!
